PLTC is a 10-week program designed to teach bar admission candidates practical skills and legal transactions. While experienced full-time faculty teach the curriculum, the program also values the outstanding volunteer commitment of hundreds of practising lawyers who serve as guest instructors in the classroom and as authors for the Practice Material.

PLTC needs volunteers

Guest instructors offer PLTC students their valuable, first-hand knowledge and expertise, which becomes an integral part of the students' legal education. If you are a lawyer who has at least three years of practice experience, are willing to volunteer a minimum of half a day per year and are enthusiastic about teaching your area of law, PLTC needs you as a guest instructor.

Typically, guest instructors teach a lesson plan for three hours, once each PLTC session. Volunteers are also needed each session to serve as judges in one evening Criminal Cross-Examination Exercise and in a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) Mock Civil Trial.

Volunteer authors of the Practice Material work closely with the Practice Material Editor to update the Practice Material annually.

PLTC volunteers enjoy

  • an opportunity to serve the profession
  • recognition and appreciation from students, colleagues, PLTC faculty and staff
  • enhanced expertise in a practice area
  • detailed lesson plans, notes and readings provided in advance
  • an opportunity to meet other volunteers
