The Law Society is governed by the Legal Profession Act, which is set out by the provincial government.
The work of the Law Society is overseen by a volunteer board of governors called Benchers.
The chief executive officer of the Law Society is the Executive Director, who directs the Law Society staff.
Benchers establish the Law Society Rules, the Code of Professional Conduct for British Columbia and board policies, including governance policies.
Benchers also oversee the implementation and administration of programs carried out by the Law Society staff.
The Law Society also makes appointments to outside bodies. For more information, see the Law Society of BC Appointments Policy.
