Becoming a lawyer in BC

All BC lawyers are registered with the Law Society of BC and membership is required to be eligible to practise law. The only exception to this is eligible lawyers from other Canadian provinces who wish to practise in BC on a temporary basis.

What you need to know if you plan to practise in BC

New lawyers

Students applying to become a first-time lawyer
Law Society Admission Program including articling and the Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC)
Call ceremonies

Current and former lawyers

Returning to practice and reinstatement as a lawyer
Transferring from another Canadian jurisdiction 
Practising in BC on a temporary basis 
Transferring from outside Canada
Seeking family law alternate dispute resolution accreditation
