Special Compensation Fund

Since May 1, 2004, trust protection coverage, provided as part of the Law Society's insurance program, responds to claims that were previously dealt with by the Special Compensation Fund.  As new matters are now dealt with and considered under trust protection coverage and handled by the Lawyers Insurance Fund, please see  Insurance/Trust Protection Coverage for more information.

Maternity Leave Benefit Loan Program

The Maternity Leave Benefit Loan Program was established by the Law Society as a two-year pilot program aimed at assisting self-employed women lawyers to remain in practice. It is not intended as income replacement but to help defray some of the costs of overhead during the time spent away from practice for maternity leave.
