Vancouver, February 4, 2015 – The Law Society sets standards of professional responsibility for BC lawyers and articled students, and upholds those standards through a complaints and discipline process. These standards and processes are important to maintain public confidence and trust in lawyers. Accordingly, former lawyer Andrew Christopher Lee has admitted to professional misconduct, and has agreed not to apply for reinstatement for seven years.

According to an agreed statement of facts, between November 2011 and September 2013, Lee submitted claims to his firm for out-of-pocket expenses totaling about $15,000 that were fraudulent, for which he was reimbursed. The claims were for expenses he never incurred or never incurred for business purposes; expenses he had already been reimbursed in whole or in part directly by a service provider; and expenses for which he had already been reimbursed for by his law firm.

The Law Society’s discipline committee has accepted Lee’s admission, and his undertaking not to apply for reinstatement until 2022. Lee has not been practising law since November 2013.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 11,000 practising lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
