Vancouver, July 3, 2015 – In order to maintain public confidence and trust in lawyers, the Law Society sets standards of professional responsibility for BC lawyers and articled students and upholds these standards through a complaints and discipline process. Throughout these processes, lawyers are obligated to cooperate and comply with Law Society investigations and proceedings. Accordingly, a Law Society hearing panel has found former lawyer Kevin Alexander McLean of Vancouver ungovernable and ordered him disbarred.

In its decision, the panel stated that: “The Law Society cannot fulfill its mandate if lawyers demonstrate that they will not abide by that authority through a pattern of persistent conduct, evidencing general indifference to, and/or a wanton disregard and/or disrespect for the Law Society’s regulatory process.”

In addition to his sanction, McLean is required to pay $6,785 in hearing costs.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 11,000 practising lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
