UPDATES SINCE ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE

  • November 12, 2015: Written reasons are available here.

Vancouver, August 14, 2015 – The Law Society sets standards of professional responsibility for BC lawyers and articled students, and upholds those standards through a complaints and discipline process. These standards and processes are important to maintain public confidence and trust in lawyers. Accordingly, the Law Society has accepted an admission of conduct unbecoming a lawyer from Jack Woodward, QC, and ordered a suspension of one month.

The citation alleged that Woodward wrote a number of cheques between two personal accounts when he knew that there were insufficient funds in one or both of the accounts to satisfy some or all of the cheques. No client funds were involved.

The hearing panel gave oral reasons accepting Woodward’s admission and proposed disciplinary action, with the suspension to start August 13. Written reasons for the panel’s decision will be released in due course.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 11,000 practising lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
