Vancouver, June 22, 2017 – The Law Society of British Columbia announces three new awards to celebrate excellence in the legal profession:
- The Law Society Excellence in Family Law Award recognizes lawyers who have made specific contributions to the advancement of justice for families.
- The Law Society Award for Leadership in Legal Aid recognizes lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the provision of legal aid in British Columbia.
- The Law Society Diversity and Inclusion Award honours lawyers who have made significant contributions to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession or the law in British Columbia.
The awards will be presented every two years, with inaugural awards presented in December this year.
“There are so many outstanding lawyers who have dedicated themselves to improving access to justice through the provision of legal aid, advancing justice for families or increasing diversity in the profession,” said Law Society President Herman Van Ommen, QC. “These awards offer an opportunity to recognize the excellent work that’s being done, and to thank those lawyers who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment not only to the profession, but to the members of the public whom they serve.”
Nominations are currently being accepted for all three awards. The deadline for nominations has been extended to September 29, 2017. For criteria and nomination instructions, visit the Awards and Scholarships page of our website.
