The 2020 annual fee and first instalment of insurance (if applicable) is due on November 30, 2019. As part of the Law Society’s effort to add new features to make it easier for lawyers to manage their practice, all lawyers will be able to access and download their 2020 annual fee billing invoice later in October through the online Member Portal. Lawyers are invoiced for the annual fees once a year and twice a year for insurance. The annual fee covers the period from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. The first instalment of insurance covers the period January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Payment of the annual fee and first instalment of insurance made after November 30, 2019 are subject to a late fee.

The amount for the annual fee depends on a lawyer's membership and insured status at the time of billing (approximately one week prior to the creation of the invoice). Lawyers who intend to change their membership or insurance status for 2020 should complete and submit the applicable status change form as soon as possible, in order for a revised invoice to be created. More information regarding membership and insurance options can be found here.

As well, sole practitioners and lawyers practising in small firms can expect to receive further communications from the Member Services Department in mid-October with instructions on how to download the annual fee billing invoice from the Member Portal. Lawyers in large firms should expect their invoice to be forwarded to the firm administrator.
