H. Allan Hope, QC passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Called to the bar in 1962, Hope practised for the majority of his career with the firm he founded, Cashman, Hope and Heinrich. He acted as an arbitrator and mediator in several hundred labour, environmental and commercial disputes over the length of his career. He was known for his integrity, wit and leadership among the bar.

Hope served as Treasurer of the Law Society in 1982 and as Bencher representing the County of Cariboo from 1974 to 1982. During his time as Bencher, he was committed to improving lawyers’ compliance with practice rules and was instrumental in establishing the precursor to what is now known as the Practice Standards Committee. He also served on numerous committees, including as vice-chair of the Finance Committee and chair of the Credentials Committee, Policy Review Committee and the Policy Department Committee. Hope made many contributions to the legal profession, both with the Law Society and through his career. He will be missed.
