Small Business BC seeking lawyers to help business recovery grant program

The Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant program is seeking lawyers in British Columbia to assess the solvency of businesses and help companies develop economic recovery plans. Lawyers are invited to submit their expression of interest in supporting clients within a two week window, and who would like to lend their skills, knowledge and expertise to assist companies in developing their economic recovery plans, while helping to rebuild a critical part of BC’s economy. Small Business BC will match grant applicants with lawyers, who will be reimbursed for their services, up to a maximum of $2,000 (including taxes) per grant recipient, based on their hourly rate to a maximum of $250/hour. Expressions of interest can be submitted to Small Business BC on their website by 10 pm on Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Supreme Court Master competition

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has two openings for the position of Master, Supreme Court of British Columbia. One position is in Vancouver and one position is in New Westminster. Details about the position and instructions for submitting an application can be found here. Interested applicants must submit a cover letter and resume in accordance with the posting instructions. In addition, applicants are required to complete an online questionnaire as part of the application process. The closing date for the competition is Friday, October 16, 2020.

Anti-money laundering measures webinar (free of charge)

If you are looking for opportunities to complete continuing professional development requirements, the Law Society of BC is offering a free two-hour program provided by Practice Advisor Barbara Buchanan, QC and Audit Team Leader Tina Kaminski to help lawyers comply with the Law Society’s anti-money laundering rules. The program includes information on money laundering, cash, client identification and verification, red flags and risk management.
