A hearing panel of the Law Society has ordered that Surrey lawyer Sumandip Singh be suspended two years for professional misconduct, effective June 1, 2021.

The hearing panel found that Sumandip Singh committed professional misconduct by facilitating the unauthorized practice of law by disbarred lawyer Gerhard Albertus Pyper, failing to tell clients or staff that Pyper was not authorized to practise law, communicating in an abusive or offensive manner with lawyers, judges and other parties, improperly commissioning documents for use in court proceedings and Land Title Office matters, failing to meet the quality of service required of lawyers and misleading the Law Society during the course of its investigation.

In determining disciplinary action, the panel considered the seriousness and extent of the misconduct that occurred over several years, the need to protect the public and ensure public confidence in the legal profession and the serious consequences to clients as a result of his misconduct.

The hearing panel’s decision on facts and determination is available here and the hearing panel’s decision on disciplinary action is available here.
