Lawyer Kashif A. Ahmed has been fined $12,000 after reaching a consent agreement with the Law Society to resolve misconduct relating to 30 immigration law clients.
Ahmed admitted that he failed to provide his clients with the quality of service required of a competent lawyer between 2012 and 2017. Ahmed’s misconduct included failing to provide clients with complete and relevant advice and information about their matters, failing to confirm retainer agreements directly with clients, not identifying potential conflicts of interest, and not reviewing the clients' applications for permanent residency directly with them, without third-party representatives present.
Ahmed has agreed to pay a fine of $12,000 and meet with a Bencher within six months to discuss his misconduct. He must also complete six additional approved Continuing Professional Development credits by December 31, 2023.
