The Law Society of British Columbia is seeking a Manager, Practice Support to provide pro-active leadership of the Law Society’s practice support and quality assurance initiatives.

This position offers the ideal candidate a unique opportunity to fill a dynamic role in the future of the legal profession in BC. The focus of Practice Support is on supporting lawyers through advice, resources, online courses, referrals and coaching services.

Through pro-active interaction and guidance with internal and external stakeholders, the Manager, Practice Support provides collaborative leadership to a team of lawyers and administrative staff.

Competencies required for this position include:

  • Understanding professional competence issues and creating solutions for performance deficiencies
  • Maintaining awareness of trends, opportunities, and strategies to innovate, integrate and streamline Practice Support services
  • Acting as lead legal advisor to the Practice Standards Committee
  • Managing collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including other Law Societies, educators and professional associations
  • Managing budget and operations, overseeing a team of union and non-union staff and contractors
  • Managing relationships with other Law Society departments to ensure coordination of common files, support for new programs and collaborative development and implementation of operations


The ideal candidate must be a member in good standing in the Law Society of BC (or eligible for membership) with a minimum of 10 years of combined practice and management experience. The ideal candidate will also have significant senior regulatory and administrative law experience.

Other qualifications include:

  • Senior advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, technological, organizational, legal research and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Senior experience working with and advising committees, task forces and working groups.
  • Significant knowledge of Law Society rules, professional ethics, professional competence models, project management, department management and evaluation.
