The Law Society is reviewing Bill 44 - Civil Resolution Tribunal Act, which was recently introduced in the Legislature.

If passed, the Act will create a voluntary process for the resolution of strata and small claims disputes before a new Civil Resolution Tribunal. This process will include the introduction of online services to assist in the resolution of disputes by agreement.

The Civil Resolution Tribunal is intended to provide dispute resolution services that are accessible, speedy, economical, informal and flexible. The Law Society, like all other stakeholders in the justice system, is looking for ways to enhance access to affordable legal services, particularly in those areas where there is the greatest need. In reviewing Bill 44, the Law Society will be considering it from the perspective of the public interest in the administration of justice.
