Vancouver – A hearing panel has handed down a four-month suspension to lawyer Nathan Richard Bauder for professional misconduct, and ordered him to pay $10,000 in costs.

Bauder fraudulently attempted to obtain mortgage financing for a personal mortgage while purchasing a property in Prince George in 2010.

In ordering the four-month suspension, the panel stated general deterrence was a key consideration.

“The respondent deliberately engaged in dishonest and fraudulent conduct for personal gain, and any sanction imposed must send a message that this type of behaviour will attract significant disciplinary consequences, sufficient … to send a message to the bar that they should not even think about doing what the respondent did in this case.”

The decision of the hearing panel can can be found by searching the decisions database.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
