Vancouver – The Law Society has received a complaint about retired lawyer, Barbara M. Smith, and is looking into the matter. The complaint relates to Ms. Smith’s alleged conduct related to rabbits on her property.

Whenever it comes to the society's attention — whether through a complaint or from another source including media reports that a lawyer’s conduct may constitute a discipline violation — the Law Society will investigate.

If a lawyer’s behavior has the potential to hurt public confidence in the legal profession, the Law Society has the authority to take action. A lawyer who is a member of the society, but who has retired status, is subject to the same code of conduct as practising lawyers.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
