Vancouver – The Law Society has taken action in the case of James Hu, a Richmond lawyer facing allegations that he mishandled money in his clients’ trust accounts.
“To ensure the public is protected, we have taken steps in advance of his hearing,” said Deborah Armour, the Law Society’s Chief Legal Officer. “Hu may not act as a lawyer until our discipline process is completed.”
The Law Society obtained a written agreement from Hu that he will not practise law while the process is ongoing or until directed otherwise by the Law Society’s Discipline Committee. “This agreement has the same effect as an interim suspension,” explained Armour. The Law Society has also obtained a court order to terminate Hu’s practice, and the Society has designated staff lawyer Trevor Kaatz to carry out the work.
