Vancouver – The Law Society of BC congratulates all of the winners of the 2012 Jack Webster Awards, including Peter McKnight, the winner of the Award for Excellence in Legal Journalism. A journalist with the Vancouver Sun, McKnight won the award for his columns on the Stanley Cup riot.

The Award for Excellence in Legal Journalism recognizes a journalist or team of journalists for a story about a legal issue, the legal profession in BC or the administration of justice. The award is sponsored by the Law Society and the winner is chosen by an independent panel composed of current and former journalists, and members of the community.

The Law Society is proud to partner each year with the Jack Webster Foundation to support excellence in legal journalism. Webster was appointed by the provincial government to serve as a lay Bencher in 1988, making him one of the original members of the public to serve on the Law Society’s board of governors.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
