Vancouver – As part of the celebration of Law Week, the Law Society is launching its new Speakers Bureau today.
The Bureau is an important piece of the Society’s commitment to public education and the law and to assisting lawyers in their pursuit of professional excellence.
“The Law Society plays an important role in protecting the public,” said Law Society president Bruce LeRose, QC “We’re proud to provide information about what we do and how to access our services through our new Speakers Bureau.”
Some of the topics for which the public can request a speaker include:
How to get the most out of your lawyer
The Law Society complaints process
How to work with a lawyer
Problems with your lawyer's fees
Regulation of the legal profession
Access to legal services
The rule of law
Independence of the legal profession
Paralegals as providers of legal services
Groups of lawyers will also be able to request a speaker on a variety of topics related to practising law and Law Society rules. The Law Society views education of lawyers as an important part of ensuring the public is served by a competent legal profession.
The launch is part of the Society’s support of Law Week, which is put on by the Canadian Bar Association in partnership with the Law Society and others, and runs in BC until April 22, 2012. To find more information about the Bureau, or to request a speaker, visit the Law Society’s website.
The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
