Vancouver – Bruce LeRose, QC, 2012 president of the Law Society of British Columbia, and publicly-appointed Bencher Ben Meisner have each been awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The commemorative medal recognizes Canadians who have made significant contributions to their communities and their country.
LeRose’s medal was awarded to him by Attorney General and Minister of Finance Shirley Bond at the 2013 Queen’s Counsel Reception on February 6, 2013. “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition,” said LeRose. “As a lawyer in Trail, serving my community is the most important aspect of my professional life.”
LeRose was called to the BC Bar in 1982 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006. A Bencher of the Law Society since 2004, LeRose served and chaired many Law Society committees and is currently chair of the Legal Services Provider Task Force. In addition to serving as Law Society president, he is a past president of the Kootenay Bar Association.
Prince George MP, Dick Harris announced Meisner’s award on January 31, 2013. Meisner has a 60-year career as a broadcaster and is known as the “conscientious voice” in pressing others to do the right thing. His many and vast public achievements include his work to save the Nechako River salmon, fundraising to help develop Cottonwood Island Park and sparking the development of the Northern Medical Program.
“I am both honoured and humbled by the news of the medal,” said Meisner. “I am also very honoured that when need be, the people in the community have allowed me to work on their behalf.” In 2002, Meisner was awarded a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.
The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
