Vancouver – The Law Society of BC and the Jack Webster Foundation are pleased to present the 2013 Law and the Media Workshop. This year’s event will be held at the Law Society Building in Vancouver.
“Major crimes and mega trials: reporting on police, criminals and the courts in the 21st century,” will examine a fictional scenario involving an alleged gang leader and underling charged with murder and organized crime offences.
From the first press release announcing the arrests to the trial of the accused, the workshop will instruct journalists how to navigate a complex, developing story both inside and outside the courtroom. The seminar will explore the legal pitfalls of newsgathering and reporting, including how best to deal with confidential information, anonymous sources and publication bans.
The annual Law and the Media Workshop is an opportunity for reporters, producers and editors to refresh or enhance their knowledge of the law as it relates to journalism. This year’s panelists are:
