News Release
October 31, 2013

Vancouver – The Law Society is proud to have once again been a part of the annual Jack Webster Awards by sponsoring the award celebrating outstanding legal journalism. The 2013 Jack Webster Award for Excellence in Legal Journalism was given to Peter McKnight of the Vancouver Sun. McKnight won for his series Neurolaw, which explored the growing scientific field of neuroscience and its impact on criminal law.

The Award for Excellence in Legal Journalism honours an individual journalist or a team of journalists for a story about a legal issue, the legal profession or the administration of justice in BC. The winner is chosen by an independent panel of current and former journalists and other members of the community.

In addition to our involvement with the Webster Awards, the Law Society also partners with the Jack Webster Foundation for the annual Law and the Media Workshop. Jack Webster was one of the original members of the public to help regulate the BC legal profession when he was appointed by the provincial government in 1988 to serve on the Law Society’s board of governors.

Congratulations to all of the 2013 Jack Webster Award winners.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the more than 10,000 lawyers in the province, setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct that ensure the public is well-served by a competent, honourable legal profession.
