A hearing panel of the Law Society of British Columbia has ordered that Terrace lawyer Wade Cameron MacGregor be suspended for professional misconduct. The panel ordered that the 15-day suspension commence August 1.

The Law Society found that MacGregor committed professional misconduct by counselling his client to breach the terms of a separation agreement that was enforceable as if it was a court order.

In determining the appropriate disciplinary action, the hearing panel considered that MacGregor did not deliberately and knowingly breach his obligations, but rather had an honest but mistaken belief that he was not engaged in professional misconduct by counselling his client to withhold the support payments required by the separation agreement in these circumstances.

Written reasons for the hearing panel’s decision are available on the Law Society website.
