The situation regarding the prevention of the COVID-19 virus has been evolving rapidly. At this time, the Law Society is operating at full capacity to serve the public and respond to lawyer inquiries. Certain steps are being taken out of a commitment to keep the health and safety of members of the legal profession, employees and the general public at the forefront of our actions during this rapidly evolving situation:

  • Law Society public events are being postponed.
  • Bencher and committee meetings may be altered to be held by teleconference or videoconference.
  • We will look at whether circumstances support increasing use of teleconferencing and videoconferencing for hearings and other meetings.
  • Visitors will not be permitted inside the Law Society offices if:
    • they have returned from travel outside Canada in the last 14 days, or
    • they have been exposed to COVID-19 or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not yet cleared as non-contagious by provincial health authorities.
  • Enhanced disinfection of common areas in the Law Society offices continues, and we are planning for contingencies that ensure core services continue in the event that it becomes necessary for some employees to work off-site.
  • Non-essential business travel by Law Society employees has been restricted.

The Law Society’s leadership team is closely following developments related to COVID-19, including updates from the provincial health officer, and will provide further notifications of any additional steps that are taken that may affect Law Society services or events.
