A hearing panel of the Law Society has ordered that Milan Matt Uzelac be suspended for professional misconduct. The four month suspension will commence on January 1, 2021.

Uzelac admitted that he received and disbursed up to $1,167,000 through his trust account on behalf of a client without making reasonable inquiries about the circumstances and without providing substantial legal services in relation to those funds. As a result of his actions, his client was able to dupe a victim into investing funds in a fraudulent investment scheme.

The panel accepted Uzelac’s admission of professional misconduct. In ordering the four month suspension, the panel considered the nature, gravity and consequences of the misconduct, his acknowledgement of the misconduct, his previous professional conduct record and the importance of maintaining public confidence in the legal profession.
