A hearing panel of the Law Society has ordered that Vancouver lawyer Rene Henri Daignault be suspended for professional misconduct. The two week suspension will commence on May 4, 2020.

Daignault was found to have used his trust account to receive and disburse funds on behalf of a client in three transactions where he failed to provide any substantial legal services and failed to advise those depositing the funds that he was not protecting their interests. There was no evidence of fraud or loss in connection with these transactions.

In ordering the two week suspension, the panel considered that the misconduct was serious and warrants a suspension despite lack of dishonesty and two weeks is the appropriate length of suspension in recognition of mitigating factors specific to this case.

Written reasons for the hearing panel’s decision available here.
