Update: Part two of the Mental Health Forum has been rescheduled to February 6, 2024.
Pressures within the legal profession can take a toll on one’s mental and physical well-being. Findings from a recent study, the National Study on the Psychological Health Determinants of Legal Professionals in Canada, show that 55 per cent of legal professionals in BC experience psychological distress and burnout, and 45 per cent seek professional help.
Improving mental health for legal professionals in BC is a key priority for the Law Society. In June 2023, we partnered with the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC to host part one of a two-part Mental Health Forum aimed at advancing the conversation on mental health in the legal community.
Speakers Cheryl D’Sa and Brook Greenberg, KC reflected on reasons why legal professionals are susceptible to mental health challenges and provided strategies to combat burnout and other issues impacting their mental and physical well-being.
On February 6, 2024, we will host part two of the Mental Health Forum. The virtual event will focus on advancing personal mental health, as well as providing practical strategies that practitioners, firms and other legal employers can use to actively work toward improving mental health within their organizations and the profession.
We encourage legal professionals to join the conversation to learn, share and recognize that you are not alone. To register, please visit CLEBC’s website.
