Surrey lawyer Ravneet Singh Rakhra has agreed to pay a fine of $5,000 after reaching a consent agreement with the Law Society for professional misconduct.
Rakhra admitted that he failed to act honourably and with integrity when he emailed his client’s translator messages containing written answers during an immigration interview with a Service Canada program officer in 2019.
In accepting the consent agreement proposal, the Law Society took into account that Rakhra was a nine-month call at the time of the misconduct, received inadequate mentorship, and does not have a prior professional conduct record. Rakhra acknowledged his misconduct was wrong and is remorseful.
Rakhra has agreed to pay a fine of $5,000 and complete five hours of continuing legal education in the area of professional ethics. He now practices at a different law firm under guidance and mentorship.
