In this course, we describe the general framework of the tort of defamation and specifically discuss what constitutes a defamatory statement.
We address the critical role of the defenses in torts defamation and the circumstances in which a statement falls into fair comment or responsible communication on a matter of public interest.
You will learn how consent to publish from the plaintiff affects defense, and how apology and retraction may mitigate damages.
Finally, we discuss cyber defamation and how it may differ from more traditional mediums.
