In this course, we discuss the factors that may lead an accused to self-represent, or go unrepresented:
What factors are considered when assessing fitness to be self- represented?
What is the court’s responsibility to an unrepresented client?
What are the consequences of going unrepresented?
We furthermore thoroughly review psychopathologies that may result in an accused being difficult and how to best manage them as clients or in court.
Lastly, we review situational factors that may result in a difficult accused, and what support is appropriate to provide.
