Description
In December 2023, the UK government announced the establishment of the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI), a new agency designed to specifically oversee the civil enforcement of trade sanctions, including those related to Russia. Operating alongside the existing Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI), OTSI will sit within the UK Department for Business and Trade, aiming to bolster the UK's sanctions enforcement capabilities by providing guidance, imposing penalties, and engaging directly with businesses.

Six months on from the launch of OTSI, during this session, the speakers will cover:

OTSI’s role and responsibilities (12 minutes)
Detailed introduction to OTSI’s function and responsibilities within the UK's sanctions implementation and enforcement framework
Operational details and legal framework (12 minutes)
Discussion of OTSI's legal powers, enforcement capabilities, and the interface with other UK government bodies responsible (including OFSI and HMRC)
Practical implications for trade compliance – what to expect (12 minutes)
Predictions on real-world implications for companies by drawing on lessons learned from the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI)
Future trends in trade sanctions enforcement (12 minutes)
Insights into potential future developments in sanctions enforcement and compliance requirements
Q&A and key takeaways (12 minutes)
An interactive session to address attendee queries and summarize the key points discussed
