Incorporation of a law practice

There are two parts to the Law Society’s incorporation application process:

  1. Name approval
  2. Once you have reserved a corporation name with the Registrar of Companies and received a ‘Results of Name Request’ form from the Corporate Registry, you must submit an online incorporation application to the Law Society. We will review your proposed corporation name and if approved, this will be confirmed in the form of a ‘Certificate Respecting Corporate Name’.

  3. Law Corporation permit
  4. Apply to the Registrar of Companies for incorporation. Once the Law Corporation has been registered under the Business Corporations Act, you must apply to the Law Society for a permit. When Part I above is complete, you will be able to retrieve your online application and apply for a permit.

The Incorporation of a law practice information sheet contains detailed information on the application process. Before you begin, ensure your corporate name meets the requirements outlined in Section C of the information sheet.

Please note, a separate online application must be used for each law corporation.
