Law Society disciplines BC lawyers

VANCOUVER — Pursuant to its statutory duty to govern BC’s legal profession in the public interest, the Law Society of BC has disciplined the following lawyers (the lawyer’s year of call to the BC Bar appears in parentheses). Full hearing reports are posted on the Law Society’s website at

Sheldon Goldberg (1973, Vancouver) was found guilty of professional misconduct for improperly withdrawing from a criminal trial and for being discourteous and disrespectful to the court. A hearing panel ordered that he be suspended for 30 days commencing Dec. 5, 2005.

David Robert Greig (1987, Surrey) admitted professional misconduct for failing to maintain certain receipt books and payment ledgers as required by Law Society rules, failing to record all funds received by his firm in general account records as required by Law Society rules and failing to report miscellaneous law firm income to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. Mr. Grieg consented to a reprimand, a fine of $7,500 and costs of $30,399.

Richard Hendery (1987, Vancouver), admitted that his failure to register as a vendor under the Social Services Tax Act, to collect PST and GST on client billings, to remit collected PST and GST and to maintain his books, records and accounts in accordance with Law Society rules constituted professional misconduct. A hearing panel ordered that he pay a fine of $2,000 and costs of $2,500, that he file quarterly reports for two years outlining his payment of GST in arrears and that he file annual reports for two years confirming that he is abiding by all Law Society accounting rules.
