Berge given nod as 2001 Second Vice-President

Lawyers at the Annual General Meeting unanimously elected the Benchers' nominee for Second Vice-President in 2001 — Okanagan Bencher Howard Berge, Q.C.

A partner of Berge & Company in Kelowna, Mr. Berge has represented his district since 1992 and is one of the two most senior Benchers. In nominating Mr. Berge at the AGM on behalf of all the Benchers, Russ

Tretiak, Q.C. noted Mr. Berge's impressive contributions to the profession and the interests of lawyers.

His Law Society work includes service on the Executive Committee (1998-2000), Access to Justice Committee (Chair, 1999), Discipline Committee (1997, Vice-chair, 1999-2000), Bench and Bar Committee (1998-1999), Audit Committee (Chair, 1998), Credentials Committee (1994-1996, Chair, 1998), Special Compensation Fund Committee (1993, 1996, Vice-chair, 1997), Competency Committee (1992) and Professional Standards Subcommittee on Conveyancing.

He has also served as President of the Kelowna Bar Association, a director of the Yale County Bar Association, a member of the CBA National and Provincial Councils, a director of the CLE Society of B.C. and chair of the Okanagan Property & Commercial Law Section.
