Lawyers who fail to pay insurance fee mid-year must stop practising
Law Society Rule 3-23 has been amended to clarify that a lawyer who fails to pay the second instalment of the insurance fee by June 30 must immediately cease the practice of law and surrender his or her practising certificate and any proof of professional liability insurance issued by the Society. This provision does not apply if a lawyer becomes exempt from insurance coverage.
This Rule change is for clarification and consistency with section 30(7) of the Legal Profession Act.
The text of the amendment is set out in the June Members' Manual amendment pages.
