Immigration Spotlights November 7 Media Workshop
VANCOUVER - Reporters and editors are urged to register quickly for a November 7th media workshop presented by the legal profession. The workshop, an annual event sponsored jointly by the Law Society of British Columbia and the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch), will focus on immigration issues - who gets in, what the processes are, who stays in Canada and why, and how extradition/deportation issues are handled by government officials, police, community workers and the judiciary.
This related group of topics was chosen by workshop organizers because of the high profile that immigration policies and problems have had in the media. From the stories of immigrants coming to Canada - their challenges and successes - to an examination of the many risks and rewards that immigration brings, the workshop will bring together public officials and community leaders who develop and administer immigration policy federally and locally.
"Immigration: The BC Experience of Coming…or Going" will bring together expert panelists within the immigration and justice system. This includes a panel of recent Canadian immigrants, Federal Court judges, lawyers, federal immigration officials, police and community workers.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 7th, at the Law Courts Inn at 800 Smithe Street starting at 8:30 a.m. The event is free to any reporter or editor from an accredited media organization. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
