The Law Society and Jack Webster Foundation announce Law and the Media workshop

Vancouver – The Law Society and Jack Webster Foundation present “An Unfolding News Story” for their annual Law and the Media workshop.

The workshop will examine a fictional scenario involving an offer made to a reporter of a video taken by a drone and the subsequent legal pitfalls encountered as the story unfolds. The seminar will explore a wide range of issues from drone rules, leaked government documents, libel, privacy, bans, production orders or warrants through to unscheduled interviews, FOI demand-to-return, social media and copyright rules.

Meet our panelists:

  • Dan Burnett, media lawyer
  • Ethan Faber, assistant news director and managing editor, CTV News Vancouver
  • Gillian Shaw, digital life writer, The Vancouver Sun
  • Mike Wagner, media lawyer

The workshop offers tools and insights to help members of the media become legally savvy in today’s world of tech media. All members of media are invited to attend.
