Supreme Court issues direction on correspondence with the court

Chief Justice Brenner of the BC Supreme Court has issued a practice direction setting out the limited circumstances in which it is proper for counsel or litigants to correspond with the court or to contact the court informally.

The practice direction was issued in response to an increasing volume of inappropriate correspondence that is now directed to court registries. It makes clear that, in most instances, writing letters to the court is not appropriate, and when an exception exists, counsel should follow specific procedures.
