LifeWorks advisors and counsellors maintain strict confidentiality, except where disclosure is required by law (e.g. release of documents is required by a court order, if a counsellor identifies that there is an imminent risk of harm to self or others, child abuse).

No one at the Law Society or your workplace will know you have contacted LifeWorks or used its services unless you tell them.

You are no longer required to login into LifeWorks through the member portal. You will not be asked to provide your membership number to LifeWorks advisors or counsellors. You will not be required to disclose your use of LifeWorks to the Law Society at any time.

LifeWorks prioritizes confidentiality, including ensuring that there are no back-to-back in-person counselling appointments with others from your organization and that all email or phone contact is discreet, including non-identifying emails and voicemails.

LifeWorks’ online services and programs are secure and password protected.

When you call or use the online chat function via the website or app, a LifeWorks advisor will be your first point of contact. Advisors are trained to quickly evaluate your needs and connect you with appropriate services and/or resources to address your issue.

The advisor will open a confidential file and ask you a series of questions, including your name, date of birth, and information about your concern or issue. The advisor will make a preliminary assessment of the level of care or support that may benefit you. This information will not be shared with the Law Society.

If you are seeking counselling, the advisor will match you with a counsellor within LifeWorks’ network of professionals that has specialized training most appropriate for your circumstances.

All counsellors affiliated with LifeWorks are highly qualified and carefully screened. Many counsellors have PhDs and MDs. Minimally, all counsellors are required to have a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, educational counselling or other related fields.

In urgent situations, you can be connected to a counsellor by phone immediately. In-person appointments can be arranged the same day.

For non-urgent issues, you will have access to specialized counselling services within two to three business days.

LifeWorks’ counsellors apply a short-term, solution focused counselling model. Your counsellor will determine the appropriate counselling plan for you. Typically, no more than ten sessions are provided.

If your issue is ongoing in nature, your counsellor will work with you to determine what longer-term support you may need and make appropriate referrals to community resources.

You can access counselling for each individual issue you are experiencing.
