Sharing space with lawyers

The following are resources that may be helpful in answering your enquiry. Please familiarize yourself with them before moving on.

In brief: When lawyers, who are not partners or associates in a traditional firm, share space, immediate concerns are raised about potential conflicts of interest between the clients of the space-sharing lawyers and about the duty of confidentiality owed to clients. Those who share space must take all necessary precautions to ensure client confidentiality.

Key Resources

Code - Space-sharing arrangements: BC Code rules 3.4-42 and 3.4-43.

Practice Resource - More guidance on sharing space with other lawyers can be found in the Lawyers Sharing Space Practice Resource.
