The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, full-time Legal Administrative Assistant in our Custodianships department. The Legal Administrative Assistant, Custodianships provides legal secretarial support to the staff lawyers and paralegals of the department on Custodianship matters, as well as generally to the Director.
The duties of this position include:
- Opening files and creating cost and time keeping codes.
- Creating, indexing and updating binders for custodianship related court applications, client file work and accounting records.
- Sorting and processing active client and administrative file information into Records Tracking System (RTS).
- Receiving incoming telephone calls and meeting with clients, seeking advice and assistance from the paralegal/ lawyer where appropriate.
- Assisting in drafting routine correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, external counsel, and others.
- Assisting in drafting and e-filing routine court application materials for the appointment and discharge of custodians.
- Assisting in the preparation of documents for disclosure requests and for the release of original documents.
- Attending at law offices with Law Society “team” (may consist of staff lawyer, accountant, paralegal and assistant) to assist in the organization and recovery of files. Attending to law offices may necessitate some overnight travel within British Columbia.
- Maintaining a BF system and follow up on general administration duties, including file organization.
- Updating disposal information on to the Law Society Information System (LSIS) and Time Keeping records on assigned files.
- Assisting in gathering information through BC Online and Court Services Online.
- Such other legal administrative duties as the Director may require.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a recognized legal assistant program, as well as 1-2 years of law office experience.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of BC Online, Court Services Online and Quicklaw is an asset.
- Must possess well developed time management and analytical skills and be able to work independently and in a team environment.
The salary range for this position is $67,707 to $73,595.
