The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, full-time Financial Analyst in our Finance department. Developing forecasts and analyzing financial results, implementing budgets and preparing information to assist in the evaluation of risks. Analyzing market trends, evaluating financial risks, and forecasting future performance to support revenues and costs reviews. Responsible for examining financial data, creating financial models and providing recommendations to help make informed decisions. 

The incumbent will support and assist with the design and creation of reports from financial and payroll systems (Business Central, Tangicloud, Dayforce) along with budgeting and reporting systems (Vena) to fully utilize the systems and tools available. 

Work with the Finance team to ensure compliance with corporate policies, support improvements in financial systems and business processes, as well as being a key player in the development and design of financial reporting.  

The duties of the position include:        
  • Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, forecasts and ad-hoc analysis to guide overall organization strategies.  
  • Preparation and analysis of annual operating and capital budgets, including forecasts.
  • Preparation and analysis of the monthly financial statements, with emphasis on forecasting. 
  • System development of new reports within all finance applications and working with Finance team to deployment.
  • Assist with the maintenance of financial systems which include collaborating with other departments on improvements.
  • Assist with ongoing automation, streamlining and improvements in financial processes and systems
  • Develop improvements in reporting processes and financial systems.
  • Reporting and analysis for the annual external audit. 
  • Preparation of the investment accounting and analysis which includes reviewing to performance benchmarks and highlighting areas where action may be required according to the SIPP, including any related journal entries.
  • Responsible for all capital asset accounting, reporting and inventory reconciliation, though liaising with the responsible departments to ensure that capital asset records are complete and accurate. Liaise with departments on capital asset acquisitions to budget and track variances for required actions to remediate. Calculation of capital asset depreciation and accruals related to the capital asset reporting. 
  • Review of accuracy of accounts receivable and provide recommendation for allowances for doubtful accounts.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis which may involve detailed research to support decision making.
  • Provide back up and technical support for other Finance team members.
  • Provide support in initiatives that involve Finance collaboration on organization initiatives.
  • Act as back up for the Senior Accountant when required.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA). 
  • Five to ten years of related practical experience in an accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, accounting, software (systems) packages and MS Office (Excel, Outlook and Word) and MS Power Platform. 
  • Solid understanding of accounting systems, Business Central preferred, and understanding of report building using financial reporting applications, Vena preferred.
  • Super user level experience of using Microsoft Power Platform including Power BI, Power Automate and others. 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends and conclusions. Proficiency in building and using financial models is critical. 
The salary range for this position is $80,686.00 to $94,516.00.
