Law Society hires Indigenous Navigator to increase cultural safety

We are excited to announce an important new role at the Law Society of BC that will act as a key resource for Indigenous members of the public accessing our services.

The Indigenous Navigator will work closely with Law Society departments to ensure that complaints, investigations and hearing processes are culturally safe for Indigenous people. This new role will provide support and guidance for Indigenous complainants, witnesses and parties through our complaints and regulatory process, incorporate Indigenous protocols, support culturally-competent and trauma-informed process and facilitate connection to community services.

This initiative is part of the Law Society of BC’s commitment to remove barriers and create a safe space for Indigenous people and communities within our organization and the legal profession. Creating this role was recommendation 3.2 in the Indigenous Engagement in Regulatory Matters report.
