The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, part-time (0.5 FTE) Assistant in our Information & Privacy department. This role that supports our Information & Privacy group requires an administrative professional with excellent attention to detail. The Assistant will provide administrative and clerical support to the Information & Privacy Officer, the Freedom of Information (FOI) Analyst, and the Privacy Compliance Officer.

The duties of this position include:
  • Opening, maintaining and closing files.
  • Responding to internal and external inquiries.
  • Locating, obtaining, photocopying and/or scanning and returning records.
  • Creating and collating sets of records form existing files and materials.
  • Providing administrative support for the Information and Privacy Officer, the FOI Analyst and the Privacy Compliance Officer.
  • Filing electronic and paper documents for the department.
  • Coordinating and preparing materials for staff training sessions on Information & Privacy as required.
  • Other duties as the Manager, Privacy, Records & Information Management and Director, Governance, Privacy and Information Management may require.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of privacy legislation and its application.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office.
  • 2-3 years of office experience. Experience with supporting privacy and information staff is an asset.
  • Successful completion of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent work experience is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail with well-developed time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • The ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds.
The salary range for this position is $23,816 to $25,887.
