Pursuant to Rule 1-8(6), to be considered at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (“the AGM”) a resolution must be submitted in writing, signed by two members in good standing ("the movers") and be received by the Executive Director no later than 35 days before the AGM, this year being September 2, 2025. Through that process the Executive Director received six member resolutions to be considered at the 2025 AGM.
The details of the resolutions can be viewed within the Member Portal along with a statement on each resolution by the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director, Gigi Chen-Kuo. Please be advised that the views and opinions expressed in the resolutions submitted by members do not necessarily reflect or represent the views or opinions of the Benchers or of the Law Society.
A reminder that all lawyers are able to comment within the Member Portal on the resolutions. Comments are not anonymous, are visible to all lawyers within the Member Portal, and are moderated by the Law Society to ensure compliance with the terms of use. This comment functionality is intended to allow lawyers to express their views on resolutions prior to the advance online vote, and to assist the movers of the resolutions in determining if they wish to withdraw or make changes to the resolutions. If any submitted comments are not in keeping with the terms of use or requirements and guidance in the Code of Professional Conduct for British Columbia, the discussion may be closed with no further opportunity for comments.
The last day for the movers of resolutions to withdraw or make changes to their resolutions will be Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Following receipt of a notice of withdrawal or change to any resolution, the resolution wording will be finalized and communicated to all lawyers in the second meeting notice, which will be sent by September 19, 2025, following which there will be a period of advance online voting. Live online voting will also take place on October 7, 2025 at the virtual AGM.
