Black History Month celebrates the contributions, leadership and resilience of Black Canadians in the legal profession and beyond. From pioneering lawyers to human rights advocates, Black legal professionals have strengthened Canada’s justice system.
As we mark 30 years of Black History Month, legal professionals across Canada are invited to honour Black excellence and the everyday contributions of Black Canadians. This year’s theme, 30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries, highlights their enduring legacy.
Throughout the month, we will be sharing interesting facts about Black history, resources and notable Black leaders in the legal profession.

- The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) was established to celebrate and support Black professionals in the legal field. - Explore and celebrate the contributions of Black authors through books and community events. The Vancouver Public Library offers a curated list of books and highlights events throughout February.
- The Royal BC Museum is featuring a dynamic display of booths from local organizations, hosted by the BC Black History Awareness Society. Visitors can explore images, artifacts, archival documents and connect with direct descendants to hear their stories and family histories on Heritage Day.
