Journalists: Register for the 2025 Legal Issues Masterclass

On Tuesday, October 21, the Law Society of BC and the Jack Webster Foundation are hosting the Legal Issues Masterclass, previously known as the Law and the Media Workshop. The masterclass offers an opportunity for journalists, journalism students and educators to refresh and enhance their knowledge of the laws around reporting and journalism. You may attend the event in person or virtually.

This year’s masterclass titled “The Responsible Communication Defence: How journalists can protect against defamation claims” will feature real world anecdotes and expert advice on how journalists can exercise diligence on verifying unproven allegations and what constitutes a matter of public interest.

The event’s panelists are:
