Mission lawyer Gordon Wayne Ruley has admitted to professional misconduct and agreed to a 10-week suspension, effective October 27, 2025.
In a consent agreement, Ruley admitted that between 2020 and 2023, while acting as executor and trustee in an estate matter, he improperly withdrew funds from the trust account and failed to include a description of legal services. In addition, Ruley failed to produce the necessary records for the receipt of property belonging to the estate, obtain consent from all beneficiaries prior to issuing an interim distribution of the estate, maintain sufficient funds in the trust account to prevent overdraft charges, provide requested information to BC Assessment, and ensure timely payment of estate liabilities.
In accepting the agreement, the Chair of the Discipline Committee considered an Agreed Statement of Facts, a letter to the Chair of Discipline and his professional conduct record.
