Vancouver lawyer Houtan Sanandaji has admitted to engaging in conduct unbecoming of the profession and agreed to a three-month suspension starting September 4, 2025.
Sanandaji admitted that between 2017 and 2019, he engaged in dishonourable conduct in the course of his personal life by verbally abusing a person by communicating with them in an offensive and degrading manner, attempting to control or intimidate the person, and attempting to use his status as a lawyer to discourage the person from contacting the police about his conduct.
In accepting the agreement, the Chair of the Discipline Committee considered an Agreed Statement of Facts, Sanandaji’s letter of admission, the seriousness of his misconduct, and his prior conduct record, which included failure to pay the full amount of costs from a credentials hearing. Mitigating factors included that Sanandaji attended counselling sessions, has not engaged in similar conduct and fully cooperated with the Law Society
